Dublin v Dub Stars

Dublin 3-6  Dub Stars 2-18

Dublin manager Denis Murphy and Selector Ann Colgan had 27 of the current senior panel on view at Naomh Bríd and they must have come away encouraged by the highscoring and enthusiasm of the players on view.

The superb all-weather pitch at the Blanchardstown venue was ideal for the game ensuring plenty of pace to the game and the players responded with some fine scores.

At half-time the Dublin team held a four points advantage but failed to score from play in the second half.  But to be fair - two of the Dublin selection's first half goals were of the Christmas present category.

For most of the hour, the Dub Stars were the dominant team and the had the upperhand in most areas.

It took Louise O'Hara and Aoife Kelly less than a minute to notch up a point apiece to open for the Dub Stars but an Áine Fanning goal followed by a fine free from Ciara Berkeley and an Áine Fanning point put the Dublin team a goal clear.

However with Ciara Burgess and Louise O'Hara enjoying a good spell at midfield the Dub Stars' forwards prospered and they fired over five points in a 15 minutes spell from Amy Murphy (0-2), Louise O'Hara (f), Aideen Naughton (f), and a superb score from Muireann O'Gorman.

A long range free from Ciara Berkeley dipped under the bar for a Dublin goal in the 21st minute and they finished the half strongly with a point from Kate McGarry and another goal from Aoife Bugler to lead by 3-4 to 0-9 at the interval.

During the break - the young players of Castleknock, St Oliver Plunketts/Eoghan Ruadh, Naomh Peregrine and Naomh Bríd entertained the fine crowd.

While the Dublin team held the lead, on the balance of play the Dub Stars were a little unlucky to be behind.  In the second half, they improved hugely in defence with Fiona Hayes, Ali Maguire and Suzanne McCarthy forming a very solid half-back line.

Up front the Dub Stars ran the show with Ali Twomey catching the eye with a number of fine points.  Louise O'Hara's long range effort ended up in the net in the 42nd minute and the door was firmly shut six minutes later with Aisling Carolan goaled from a rebound.

Muireann O'Gorman brought her tally to 0-4 with two more fine scores as the Dublin selection was left to rely on two Ciara Berkeley frees for their second half tally.

After the game President-elect Aileen Lawlor performed her first official duty in her native county when she presented the cup to captain of the Dub Stars Louise O'Hara.

Many thanks to Naomh Bríd for superbly hosting the games and appreciation to the Dublin Ladies Football Board - partners in organising the games - the third in the series.
