Dublin v Offaly

Dublin 1-13 Offaly 0-9

Dublin claimed their first Junior A All-Ireland and a first adult title since the Junior crown of 2006.  Losing finalists in 2012, Dublin displayed huge determination and no little ability to see off the challenge of a game Offaly who never gave up trying.

Throughout the season, Georgina Kelly has demonstrated the value of an excellent free-taker and although a few slipped by the posts, her early points settled Dublin and gave them a 0-2 to nil advantage after 3 minutes.

Offaly's Michelle Davis was also in freetaking form and she got her side's first score in the 5th minute.  But the next 16 minutes belonged to Dublin striking 1-3 to no reply.  After another Georgina Kelly point a long delivery by Shauna Duff found its way to Kirsten Farrell and her low shot beat Shauna Carroll in the Offaly goal.

Dublin's dominance at midfield through player of the match Carolanne Canning and Emer Maher made sure that Dublin had plenty of the ball.  Super points by Orla Beagan and Georgina Kelly from play spelt the difference between the sides as Offaly could not manage to secure scores other than from the accurate stick of Michelle Davis.

Dublin on the other hand managed to get five of their six forwards on the scoresheet with Captain Elaine Gallery firing home in the 27th minute from a great pass from Roisin Collins. A minute previously Roisin benefited from a great cross from Elaine Gallery to notch a great score herself.  The scoring continued right up to the break with Orla Beagan getting the second of what would turn out to be a three point tally for the day.

Leading 1-8 to 0-3 at the interval, Dublin had the look of winners.  Offaly tried hard to get a foothold in the game but Stephanie Carthy was excellent in goals behind a solid defensive formation of Gráinne Free, Gráinne Ryan, Ellen Keatley, Rachel Noctor, Michelle Kelly (watched by her brother Dublin hurling star Peter) and Shauna Duff.

Three early second half points from Kirsten Farrell (one) and Georgina Kelly (two) pushed Dublin 11 points clear with 20 minutes remaining. Ali McGrath was playing a stormer on the wing and Emma Flanagan delivered plenty of good ball.  Although Dublin managed only two more points in the final 20 minutes through Georgina Kelly and a fine 70m effort from Orla Beagan, Offaly never threatened a goal and their only point from play came in the 56th minute from Michelle Davis.

Substitutes Laoise Quinn, Emer Keenan, Cliona McCullough and Paula Lohan all played their part as did other squad members throughout the season - Aisling Spillane, Fiona Ní Shúilleabháin, Rachel O'Connor, Ailbhe Ryan, Siobhan Grimes, Elaine Sherry, Clodagh McGough, Mikaela Dunne, Lisa Berkeley, Ciara Long.
