Dublin v Wexford

Wexford 3-6  Dublin 1-9

Almost exactly four weeks ago, the sides met at the same Bray Emmets Grounds.  Wexford made the better start but Dublin rallied and recovered to win by a point.  Reel forward and Wexford burst from the traps with even greater intensity and by the 10th minute lead by 3-2 to 0-1.  Wexford dominated in the middle third and the Dublin full-back line were bombarded in that opening phase.

Gradually Dublin improved in this sector and responded.  But this time it proved a bridge too far as an improved Wexford had learnt their lesson and held out for a deserved win.

The Slaneysiders promoted Chloe Foxe from the B side and she made a telling difference scoring 2-2 in the opening 10 minutes.  Dublin's sole response was a fine point by Ciara Carolan.

But a third goal from Wexford from Joanne Dillon really put it up to Dublin.

The response from the home side was swift and in the 14th minute Jennifer Kiernan goaled to be followed by three frees from Ciara McDonnell.  The fine free striking of the corner forward was one of the game's highlights but equally it must be said Dublin struggled to score from play and over the hour notched just 1-3 compared to Wexford's 3-3.

Wexford kept their noses in front 3-5 to 1-4 but with the breeze at their backs Dublin had no reason to panic.

Dublin now exerted the early pressure with Ciara Buchanan, Hannah Hegarty and Zenouska Murphy presenting a solid half-back line.  Aoife Molloy and Rebecca Keating came more into the game.  A superb free close to the sideline by Ciara McDonnell raised Dublin hopes and a great point by Laura O'Mahony reduced the gap to two goals.  But the Wexford defence was superb especially Lauren Carty and Niamh Walsh and another 11 minutes would pass before Dublin's next score - a great point from Aoife Molloy.

Dublin brought Faye McCarthy from goals to the attack in an effort to bring down the Wexford rearguard.  But it still fell to Ciara McDonnell to provide the scores and she supplied two mighty efforts one from 65m to leave just a goal between the teams.

As the game entered the final minute of added time it looked like Dublin might bring the game to extra-time but Faye McCarthy's fine effort for goal was superbly stopped by Laura Brennan.

Dublin Scorers:  Ciara McDonnell (0-6f), Jennifer Kiernan (1-0), Ciara Carolan, Aoife Molloy and Laura O'Mahony (0-1 each)

Wexford Scorers:  Chloe Foxe (2-4), Joanne Dillon (1-0), Una Sinnott and Annie Stafford (0-1 each)
