Dublin v Wexford

Dublin 2-8 Wexford  2-3

The Leinster B championship game between Dublin and Wexford was hosted by St. Judes at very short notice and played in Tymon Park on Sunday, 17 February. The first half was a low scoring game. It took all of 15 minutes before Wexford had the first point of the game. Their second score, a goal, came on the stroke of half time. In between Dublin had the majority of possession in front of the Wexford goals but a series of missed goal chances, missed frees, missed 45s and even a missed penalty had the spectators wondering would they ever score! Ella Carr was injured early in the game and was replaced by Ailbhe Fusco.  Catherine Costello, who had a superb game throughout playing at centre forward, sent  over two points in the eleventh and twenty sixth minute. The half time score Wexford 1-1 Dublin 0-2

The second half was a much better affair as the game opened up. Cora Hogan made some good saves in the Dublin goals. Dublin backs Laura Gibney. Niamh McCarney and Jane Edwards defended well to prevent Wexford from adding to their tally. Laura Gregg, Gemma Barry and Grace Walsh did well in the  half back line. Katie Nyhan and Caoimhe Ní Mhaologáin won the mid field battles sending in a good supply of ball. Orlaith Murphy replaced Charlotte Rooney and Rebecca Barrett replaced Aoiffe Burke.  A Catherine Costello 45 was deflected into the Wexford net on ten minutes. She followed this up with a good point to leave the score after 12 minutes Dublin 1-3 Wexford 1-1. Midway through the half Leanne Foley replied with a Wexford goal. Dublin forwards Rebecca Kamvar, Jenny Ryan, Ailbe Fusco and Sophie Martin worked really hard. From then on it was all Dublin with scores from Orlaith Murphy 1-1 and points from Sophie McCarthy, Niamh McCarthy. Mid fielder Gemma Berry put over a superb point from out on the left wing.

Final score Dublin 2-08 Wexford 2-03.
