Armagh v Dublin

Dublin 1- 13 Armagh 1- 6

Dublin displayed a superior level of fitness and skill to dominate the closing 20 minutes of this game outscoring the home side by 0-7 to nil.

The game was played on an excellent pitch in Culloville and within four minutes of the throw-in, Armagh were in front when a long range effort for a point came back off the upright for corner forward Emma Farrell to goal.

Dublin responded sharply and Emma Flanagan fielded a fine cross from Emer Keenan to notch Dublin's first score in the 6th minute.  But the home side had started well with dangerwoman Colette McSorley, centre back Grainne Kelly and wing forward Katie O'Brien prominent.  A pointed free by Michelle McGuigan restored Armagh's one goal advantage in the 7th minute.

But bit by bit Dublin's superiority on the day began to become evident.  Shauna Duff was anchoring the No 6 position and Rachel Noctor was having a stormer at right back.  A CarolAnne Canning point followed after sound defending by 'keeper Stephanie Carthy before a free from Georgina Kelly went all the way to the net for the leveller in the 15th minute.

If there was a touch of luck about that score from Georgina, one could not fault 8 further points from frees by the excellent midfielder.  Her's was a telling contribution.

Dublin continued to look the more threatening and CarolAnne Canning came close to goaling in the 23rd minute but her hand pass went wide. Stephanie Carthy also doing well at the other end.  Armagh's excellent wing forward Katie O'Brien brought her tally to two points in the 22th minute before a superb effort from Colette McSorley gave her side a one point lead at the break 1-4 to 1-3.

12 seconds into the second half Dublin had another goal chance but Elaine Gallery's effort slipped wide.  Armagh responded with another Katie O'Brien point in the 31st minute.

But Dublin showed the benefit of a long season together in 2012 and calmly worked their way back into the game.   The accuracy of free-taker Georgina Kelly was crucial and by the 39th minute she had levelled the game.   However Armagh were back in front a minute later with a fine point by Joanne Mallon.  But that was to prove to be their final score albeit they did have a number of chances that might have provided the spark to ignite their game.

Dublin's defence was sound where Siobhan Grimes and Lisa Byrne made their National League debuts and in the 42nd minute substitute Roisin Collins made an immediate impact with the equalising point.  Another replacement Laoise Quinn put Dublin in front in the 50th minute.  Dublin's superior fitness began to tell as the game entered the winning phase - Emma Flanagan notched another fine point.

The pressure was now on an tiring Armagh defence and with a free-taker of Georgina Kelly's calibre in form - she duly punished these indiscretions with four points from placed balls.

A fine start and two points in the bag.
