Dublin prove too good
for Limerick.
Dublin 0-16 Limerick
2-5
This championship game between Dublin and Limerick was an
entertaining, sporting camogie tie played in good conditions on a perfect pitch
at Ballyboden on Sunday, 30 June.
Limerick started this game in determined fashion and were in
command in the early stages. They exploded into action with a goal from Aisling
Scanlon within 17 seconds of the throw-in. But Dublin soon settled to the task
and points from Ciara McDonnell (2) and Caragh Dawson had the sides level after 8 minutes. Limerick went ahead
with a pointed free from their scorer-in-chief, Kate Mulqueen. But points from
Ciara Carolan, Amy Conroy and Ciara
McDonnell had Dublin back in front midway through the half 0-6 to 1-1. The
Dublin backs were playing well with Hannah Hegarty doing great work at centre
back, ably assisted by Zenouska Murphy and Ciara Buhcannon on the wings. The
game ebbed and flowed throughout the rest of the half with Dublin outscoring
Limerick 4 points to 3 - with points
from Ciara McDonnell (2), Rebecca Keating and Caragh Dawson to leave Dublin 3
points ahead at half time 0-10 to 1-7.
Dublin started the second half with renewed determination
adding 2 points from Ciara Carolan and Caragh Dawson within minutes of the restart.
Laura O’Mahony and Sinead McNamara exchanged points to leave the score Dublin
0-13 Limerick 1-5 midway through the half. Faye McCarthy in goals made a number
of fine saves as Dublin came under intense Limerick pressure. Full back Amy
Gorman helped by Jane Edwards and Sarah Boyle in the corners were doing
sterling work. Caragh Dawson added a point and laid on a lovely pass to Rebecca
Keating who neatly sent the sliotar over the bar bringing Dublin’s total to
0-15 after 20 minutes. Limerick continued to be a threat. After a strong solo run
through the middle of the Dublin defense Kate Mulqueen blasted the ball to the
back of the Dublin net giving the keeper no chance for the game’s only goal.
But the goal came too late for Limerick. Ciara Carolan tapped over a point to finish
the scoring leaving Dublin 5 points ahead at the final whistle. Final score
Dublin 0-16 Limerick 2-5.
A quality game. A
well deserved win.
