Dublin v Roscommon

Dublin 1-11  Roscommon 1-8

Despite dominating the game from the start Dublin were left hanging on at the finish as a late goal from Roscommon brought them within touching distance of a draw.

Played on a fine sod at O'Toole Park, Dublin opened as early as the 58th second when the excellent Laoise Quinn fired over the first of three fine points from the corner forward.  Ten minutes later Georgina Kelly landed a 70m free as the faster and more composed Dublin pressed forward.

Shauna Duff anchored the No. 6 position and Gráinne Free, Gráinne Ryan and Siobhan Grimes were on top in the full-back line.

Roscommon's best player Kelley Hopkins however managed to keep her side in touch with four first half points, the best of which was a magnificent effort from play in the 26th minutes.  Six wides in this period didnt help their cause as Dublin responded with points from Mikaela Dunne, Georgina Kelly, Laoise Quinn.  Just before the half-time interval, Dublin got the break that probably was the game's crucial score when Elaine Gallery's outfield delivery managed to sneak over the line for a goal to give Dublin a 1-6 to 0-5 advantage.  Roscommon could have been closer only for a brilliant double save by Aisling Spillane almost on the stroke of half time which unfortunately resulted in an injury.

Emer Maher, Rachel Noctor and Elaine Sherry ensured a fairly regular supply of ball to the forwards. However Dublin can be grateful for the excellent free taking of Georgina Kelly who pointed three excellent chances in the first 7 minutes after the restart.

Dublin managed only one score from play in the second half - a point from Laoise Quinn and when Fiona Connell goaled in the 55th minute with an overhead pull, Roscommon took heart.  However the Dublin defence was composed and stronger and did look like conceding a second.
