Dublin v Wexford

Dublin 6 - 10  Wexford 0-4

It took Dublin all of 7 minutes to open their scoring - a goal from Aisling O'Leary - but from thereon there was only one team in this game at Clanna Gael Fontenoy's splendid pitch in Ringsend.

A superb catch by Amy Conroy from a clearance by Elise O'Grady was a prelude to a pacy run and a great point.  Indeed the speed with which Dublin went about their task was one of the most striking features of their display.  Backs attacked the ball with pace, forwards broke with speed and the deliveries all bore a message.   The sign of a very well drilled team.  Wexford Senior boss JJ Doyle who watched the game must have been impressed.

Laura Morrissey bagged the first of her three goals in the 9th minute and added a second four minutes later to give Dublin a 3-3 to nil lead.  Matters did not improve for Wexford in the first half with Dublin dominant in all positions.  Chloe Rochford was superb at wing-back typifying Dublin's hunger and direct approach.  Laura Kilcoyne was commanding at full back and the other defenders Katelyn Murphy, Elise O'Grady, Hannah Hegarty and Sophie Lyons never put a foot wrong.  So much that 'keeper Emma Loo had a trouble free night.

Amy Conroy was a constant threat in the half forward line and the first touch of her colleagues Ciara Casey, Lily Condo and Aoife McKenna was very impressive.  Laura Mulvey got in on the goalscoring act before the break before Aisling O'Leary closed the half with a point.  Dublin 4-5 Wexford 0-0

40 seconds into the second period, Lily Condon resumed service with a pointed free.  But to give Wexford their due they never stopped trying.  The late evening journey was not a help to their cause but Geraldine Curtis showed a nice touch in the 33rd minute to score an excellent point.  Centre back Claire O'Rourke played soundly and Leah Walsh and Denise Byrne battled hard in the half forward line.  Gillian Kavanagh also added two excellent points.

Laura Morrissey grabbed her hat-trick in the 39th minute.  Laura Mulvey netted in the 44th minute as Dublin introduced five second half replacements - Anna Walsh, Zenouska Murphy, Ciara Gibbons, Aoife Clancy and Ciara Buchannan who is probably the first St Finians player to win a Leinster medal.  All demonstrated the depth of talent in the team.

A great win for mentors Paul Beecher, Stephen Hoary, Eimear Butler and Joan Kehoe and a credit to the full U16 panel who have brought two titles to Dublin this year - Under 16 All-Ireland champions and Leinster U16B champions.  Well done to all concerned.

After the game, Leinster Council Treasurer Patsy Murphy presented the cup to one of the shining stars on the team Vanessa Boland.
