Dublin v Offaly

Dublin 3-10  Offaly 1-2

Dublin could afford the luxury of 13 wides and still win with plenty to spare in this semi final at the splendid Donaghmore-Ashbourne venue.

Strangely the challengers opted to play into the breeze and when Michelle Davis capitalised on a defensive error to goal for Offaly after 4 minutes it looked like it might have been an inspired decision.  But two minutes later hat-trick hero Elaine Gallery hockey-styled her way to her first goal and Dublin never looked back.

9 of those 13 wides were struck in the first half as wind-assisted Dublin totally dominated play.

It took the side a little while to press home their advantage.  In the 8th minute, the otherwise excellent Fiona McLeish in the Offaly goal had her clearance blocked into the net by Elaine Gallery to give Dublin the lead.  A minute later a superb double on the ball by Gallery was stopped by McLeish to deny the captain an early hat-trick.

But with Shauna Duff lording matters at centre back - Dublin found the range with a string of points from Elaine Gallery, Emma Flanagan, Kirsten Farrell, Carolanne Canning and two frees from Joeleen Hoary to lead by 2-8 to 1-0 at the break.

Offaly needed to make a positive statement soon after half time but having missed a scoreable free, Dublin responded with a fine point by Laoise Quinn in the 34th minute.  The game was effectively over a minute later when after some camogie ping pong between Elaine Gallery and the Offaly defence eventually saw the sliothar hit the net for a deserved third goal for the full-forward.

Throughout the hour Mikaela Dunne put in a huge amount of work and at the back the Gráinnes - Free and Ryan were in control.  Offaly finished with two late points from Claire Camon and the impressive Elaine Corrigan - daughter of former hurling star Mark.

The only disappointing note from a Dublin point of view was an injury to substitute Lisa Berkeley which hopefully will not keep her sidelined for long.
