Dublin v Kildare

Kildare 2- 9  Dublin 2 - 3

For 23 minutes of the first half, Dublin were well in contention in this Leinster Semi Final.  Facing into a very stiff breeze, they trailed the Div 3 League champions by just 1-2 to nil and both Elaine Gallery and Joeleen Hoary were unlucky not to goal in the opening 15 minutes.  However an injury to centre back Shauna Duff forced a lengthy stoppage in the game and although the Good Counsel girl recovered to take her place she was clearly less than 100%.

In the closing 8 minutes of the half Kildare knocked over 6 unanswered points to lead by 1-8 to nil at the break.  In that first half, Susie O'Carroll knocked over 4 points with Louise Keatley also doing damage with 3 points from play to go with Róisín O'Connell's 15 minute goal.  Clodagh Flanagan at left back also did a lot of harm.

Dublin's conceded a goal a minute after the restart when a careless clearance was picked up by Siobhan Hurley who struck powerfully to the net.

Kildare would add only one more score.  But the lead was significant and with 28 minutes played despite the best efforts of the likes of the superb Gráinne Free, Gráinne Ryan and CarolAnne Canning Dublin could only add two points - Joeleen Hoary and Gráinne Smyth.   But to their credit Dublin continued to fight for every ball and great work by Mikaela Dunne led to Emma Flanagan netting in the 60th minute.  A minute later a free from 65m by Joeleen Hoary went all the way to the net and suddenly there were only two pucks of the ball between the sides.  But the clock and Kildare - the 2011 Leinster Champions had done enough.

Speedy get well to injured duo Deirdre Johnston and Shauna Duff.
