Dublin v Offaly

Offaly 3-14  Dublin 3-11

10 minutes gone and the gameplan was working.  Dublin had remedied their poor start of the previous week and had seized early control of the game.  Sarah Ryan pointed after a minute; two frees from Alison Maguire yielded white flags; a third free was superbly caught by Amy Murphy and she lashed the ball to the net before the 9th minute had struck another Alison Maguire free had given Dublin a 1-4 to 0-1 lead.

Dublin were moving the ball with pace and were worth a score or two more but a free and a chance from play slipped with but it was impressive and encouraging.

But when Elaine Dermody's less than perfect free fell over the line in the 12th minute Dublin had handed the initiative back to the visitors.   In the next 18 minutes including 15 seconds of the second half, Offaly clocked up 2-4 to Dublin's 0-3.

And despite some impressive displays by Offaly players - Dublin were guilty of poor defending for Elaine Dermody's two goals in the 23rd and 31st minutes.

By half-time having played with the aid of a slight breeze Dublin trailed by 2-5 to 1-7.  Alison Twomey grabbing a neat point from play and Muireann O'Gorman was most unlucky to see her batted effort stay out in the 25th minute.

15 seconds into the second half Dublin again failed to deal with an Offaly delivery and Elaine Dermody goaled at the second attempt.

From there to the finish, Dublin largely dominated the game with Elaine O'Meara superb and well supported by Emma White and Lizzie McSweeney.   Ciara Burgess had been introduced at the break and she finished a good move with a point in the 33rd minute to be followed three minutes later by a fine effort from Muireann O'Gorman.

But Offaly were always capable of knocking over a point or two and Arlene Watkins and Elaine Dermody from frees kept the margin between the sides.

A pair of points from Alison Maguire and Muireann O'Gorman raised Dublin's hopes in the 45th and 46th minutes.  But once again Offaly responded and by the 56th minute had opened a 3-10 to 1-11 lead.  A great goal by Muireann O'Gorman in the 56th minute lifted Dublin's hopes once more but three placed balls by Elaine Dermody cancelled that between the 60th and 62nd minutes.

Dublin kept the best score till last when a brilliant move begun by Aisling Carolan and involving a swift inter-passing phase of play led to Amy Murphy netting in style.  Jean Brady banged over a great point from play but Dublin did have one final effort following a move involving Miriam Twomey but Fiona Hayes' free shot for goal was saved.
