Dublin v Carlow

Carlow 0 - 8  Dublin 1 - 3

Dublin fell to their first defeat in the Irish Daily Star Division 4 National League game at sun-drenched Naomh Mearnóg.

The visitors opened with a point from Ciara Quirke after 5 minutes but a goal from Joeleen Hoary a minute later gave the home side the lead.  But the team failed to build on this boost and a further 17 minutes would elapse before they would garner their next score.

In between Kate Nolan drove over two frees and a 45 to restore Carlow's lead by the 17th minute.

Dublin's defence was very solid throughout and in goals Stephanie Carthy was superb.  Corner forward Lisa Berkeley levelled with a close range point in the 23rd minute but before the break Marian Doyle put Carlow back in front with the last score of the half.

Playing into the breeze Dublin were first off the mark in the second half with a great Mikaela Dunne point but again the ability to hit back was one of Carlow's hallmarks.  Dangerous corner forward Ciara Quirke pointed.

Dublin's forwards struggled to make any inroads as another Kate Nolan 45 extended Carlow's lead.

The ever-hardworking Elaine Gallery reduced the deficit to a point with a pointed 45 in the 46th minute but it was to prove to be Dublin's final score.  Ciara Quirke brought her tally to three points but it could have been more as Stephanie Carthy brough off a brilliant save five minutes from time.
