Dublin v Wicklow

Dublin 8-12  Wicklow 1-2

Ellen Keatley showed Dublin's intent after only 20 seconds when she fired over a fine point.  Apart from a brief spell before half time Dublin were in control showing great spirit, fitness and application to the task.

Joeleen Hoary had a dream game at corner forward scoring 5-3 from play but the platform was provided all over the field with every player showing leadership.

Stephanie Carthy pulled off two fine saves in the second half but throughout the game the full-back line of Claire Graham, Gráinne Ryan and Gráinne Free were outstanding.

Dublin were on top at midfield where the superb Ellen Keatley showed that she is a player to watch with excellent support from Niamh Drummond.

Nici Ni Cheidigh with Noel McEntee and Elaine Gallery.JPGElaine Gallery (left with Wicklow Captain Nicky Ní Cheidigh and Referee Noel McEntee of Kildare) was hugely dangerous at full-forward and although the captain scored just once from play, she was a whisker away from scores that another day will count.

CarolAnne Canning doesn't feature on the scoresheet but she had a tremendous game at centre forward and created several chances that were finished by others.

Nici Ní Cheidigh drove over Wicklow's first score in the 14th minute following a superb kill on the stick and six minutes later netted to leave the score Dublink 2-3 Wicklow 1-2.  Kelly Byrne was doing well at full-back and Mandy Burke in goals made a super save from Joeleen Hoary.

But Dublin were stung into action and the half-back line (Clodagh McGough,Shauna Duff, Elaine Sherry) cut off the threat to Ní Cheidigh and scores again began to follow Laoise Quinn and a goal from a 55m free by Joeleen Hoary.  Dublin led by 3-4 to 1-1 at the interval.

Any thoughts of a Wicklow comeback were ended by the 40th minute after a great point by Niamh Drummond and a goal by Laoise Quinn.

Lisa Berkeley and Niamh Adams worked extremely hard and Wicklow were never able to find the time or space to create scoring opportunities.

Fiona Ní Shúilleabháin and Mikaela Dunne combined well to set up another goal for Joeleen Hoary.  Cliona Ward, Kate Mulvey and Lorna Gardner all played big parts and the latter had the honour of scoring the 8th goal of the game.
