Thomas Davis claim Senior 3 title

Congratulations to Thomas Davis on winning the Senior 3 championship title when overcoming Portobello 2-08 to 1-07 in an entertaining game at O'Toole Park on Sunday. Portobello were ahead in this game until the 23 minute of the second half when Paula Malcolmson scored a vital goal from a penalty to put them one point ahead. They added 3 more points to see out the game.

Strong Thomas Davis  finish overcomes gallant Portobello

Portobello played with the advantage of the wind in the first half and it seemed to pay off. Jackie Hurley and Alison McGrath exchanged early points. Portobello then added 4 unanswered points to their total Jennifer Browne 0-03 and Catherine Byrne 0-01 before Ciara McGuigan, who seemed to be everywhere, replied with a fine Thomas Davis point. Thomas Davis goalkeeper, Ciara Long, made 2 superb saves when it seemed that Jackie Hurley couldn’t fail to score.  A low scoring first half ended Portobello 0-05 Thomas Davis 0-02.

Portobello got off to a terrific second half when they had the sliotar in the back of the net after 3 minutes. But Thomas Davis replied with 1-01 from Aidín Noonan. Jennifer Brown and Paula Malcolmson shared 4 points to leave Portobello 2 points with 10 minutes of the game remaining. Not unlike the Senior 1 game a goal was to prove vital at this stage of the game. On 23 minutes Thomas Davis were awarded a penalty. Paula Malcolmson slotted the sliotar to the back of the net giving them the lead for the first time in the game. They added 3 more points. There was great excitement in the last minutes as Portobello tried everything to rescue the game but Thomas Davis held on to win the Senior 3 title on a final score 2-08 to 1-07.
