Dublin vs Clare at Birr

Changes before the game number 17, Clodagh O’Halloran in for number 12, Aoife Keane for Clare

 

Dublin started well with a 45 scored by number 15, Aisling Maher, and a point scored by number 13, Cliondhna Nicoletti, from play in the first three minutes. With Mahar putting another point over the bar from another free in the sixth minute and Aoife Whealan sticking it over the bar as well. 

 

Clare got their first score in the ninth minute from their corner forward Robyn Conway however, the point was answered by a super goal from the puck out from Ciara Tierney to Maher who drove it into the back of the net.

 

Chloe Morey, number 14, for Clare scored a 45 in the 12th minute and woke Clare up with a goal from the banner’s full forward. With Clare adding another score from play.

 

In the 19th minute, Dublin came back into it after the water break with a point from play by Niamh Gannon from out on the sideline with some distance to hit it from.

 

However, All-star player Chloe Morey popped the ball over the bar from play bringing it back to a one-point game. Dublin’s Aisling Maher pushed it out to a two-point game straight after by scoring a free.

 

Dublin’s goalkeeper, Tierney, made a great save in the 27th minute with the ball being knocked out for a 45 which was scored by Chloe Murphy. 

 

Number 20, Aine O’Loughlin in for 17 Clodagh O’Halloran before the half-time whistle 

 

Gannon finishes the first half with a point from play straight from a puck out by Ciara Tierney

Dublin opened the second half with a goal from Aoife Whelan from Castleknock, making the green flag wave. However, Robyn Conway from Clare answered the goal with a point from play. Chloe Morey scored a free from beyond the 45 lines to bring Clare in the game. 

 

Number 26, Julia Buckley in for number 10, Niamh Gannon. 

 

Morey stuck it over the bar for Clare in the 37th minute. Becky Foley brings it back to a one-point game by scoring a point from play in the 39th minute. Chloe Morey levels the game by scoring a free from within her own 65. 

 

Kerri Finnegan settled the Dubs by winning a free which was scored by Aisling Maher in the 44th minute putting Dublin one point ahead.

 

However, Eimer Kelly scored a point from play for Clare just before the water break leaving the teams level going into the water break with everything to play for in the last 15th minutes.

 

Chloe Morey scored a free straight after the water break putting Clare ahead for the first time in the game. Aisling Maher scored an important point for Dublin by levelling the game from a free. However, Eimear Kelly scored from play to put Clare ahead again, but Maher showed great leadership by scoring a point to level the game. Clare answered that with a point scored by Aine O’Loughlin.

 

Morey extended Clare’s lead by scoring a free from the middle of the field to put them two points ahead. Foley scored a point for Clare after a stray put out from Dublin in the 58th minute putting the Dubs under serious pressure in the last few minutes. Chloe Morey put them four points ahead with another phenomenal free from within her half.

 

Aisling Maher stuck the ball over the bar to put Dublin three points behind, with Dublin getting a late free that she dropped into the goalmouth, however, the efforts weren’t enough as Dublin gave a free out by picking the ball off the ground. 

 

Dublin lost by three points and will play the relegation playoff against Waterford next week
