The Dublin Senior Camogie Report

Liberty Insurance,All Ireland Senior Camogie Championship, Dublin v Clare,  Parnell Park, 20.07.19

Frank Browne’s Senior Team played Clare in the final match of their season. Neither Dublin or Clare could qualify for the quarter finals, Dublin having only won one match in the Championship. They were extremely unlucky in the Tipperary match with 4 goal shots and a penalty going wide by inches and ended up losing that match by 5 points.

Under the Management of Frank Browne, this Senior Team is a mix of new and experienced players.

Unbelievably, 9 of the 28 Girls have not yet reached the age of 21 and another 10 of the players are under the age of 24.

A total of 6 debutants played in the 2019 Senior Championship and one Minor.

The match was played in Parnell Park on Saturday July 20th at 2pm in the Liberty Insurance All Ireland Camogie Championship in front of a great crowd of supporters from both sides.

Dearbhla Reid was the Mascot for the day.

Dublin were wearing Jerseys with 20X20 on the front, AIG had swapped their logo for the day. This is in support of the 20X20 campaign to reach the goal of having 20% more people attending Female sports and events by the year 2020

Neither side were going to win a cup at the end of the match, some even said it was a dead duck match but, there was the very important trait called pride to play for and both sides played their hearts out for their County.

Dublin got off to a great start when in the 1st minute Kerrie Finnegan rattled  the back of the net with a fantastic goal.

Ali Twomey added her name to the scoreboard in the 2nd minute with a lovely point from play. Siobhan Kehoe was next up in the 4 with a great point from play.

Unfortunately this was to be the tally of scores for Dublin in the first half which could have been due to the fact that Kerrie Finnegan, Dublin’s sharp shooter played most of the first half in the half back line.

The score at half time was Dublin 1.02 v Clare 1.08

At the break the Pitch was a hive of activity with mini games going on all over the field and some great skills being displayed from the future stars of Dublin.

Dublin and Clare came back on to the pitch and it was game on in the second half. Within the first 10 minutes, Orla Beagan, Aisling Maher and Sinead Wylde found the back of the net.

Kerrie Finnegan got herself on the score sheet again in the second half with 2 fine points from play and Aisling Maher got the final score of the day with a point from a free.

Full Time Score: Dublin 4.05 v Clare 2.11
