Under 8-9 Blitz Update

(23 Oct 2009)

With regard to the Blitz scheduled for Saturday morning - there is currently a fair amount of standing water on the pitches in the Park which may mean they're unplayable. However, given that there are about 450 children plus mentors all organised and looking forward to this event, we are going to wait until Saturday morning to see if the weather and pitches improve before making a call on this either way.

If you have not heard from us by 8:30am Saturday morning, assume the Blitz is still on. Worst case scenario, if we have to postpone it, we will endeavour to hold it on the following Saturday or Sunday. Fingers crossed!

Rules

These games are non-competitive, with the emphasis being on fun and enjoyment, encouraging girls to take up the game of camogie and helping them learn the basic skills.

  1. Teams will be seven-a-side, with unlimited substitutions.
  1. Quick touch sliotair will be used (please bring some with you!).
  1. The first half of the match will be ground hurling only (no sliotair in the hand – penalty will be a free to the opposing team). The second half will be all skills.
  1. Only goals can be scored.
  1. After a score, the match will recommence with a throw-in from the midfield.
  1. Kicking the ball is not allowed; the penalty will be a free to the opposing team.
  1. All frees are to be taken by the person nearest the ball.
  1. Side lines are to be taken by the person nearest the ball.
  1. When a ball is knocked over the end line by a defender, a 45 will be awarded (lift-and-strike free from just inside the half-way line).

For each team that you have entered, please bring 1 referee (i.e. three teams = three referees). This is a good opportunity to introduce juvenile club members to refereeing and let them have a go at it without the pressures of it being a ‘real’ game.

Entry fee will be €25 per club.

Dublin Camogie Board has a ‘zero tolerance’ policy regarding the bullying and intimidation of referees by mentors, regardless of the age-group. Please remember that this is meant to be a fun event, so please ensure that mentors and parents alike know not to lose the run of themselves!

Thanks.
