U16s Through to Semi Finals After Sensational Win Over The Cats

It has been four years since the U16 girls-in-blue have secured a victory over the gold-and-amber-cats. So, perhaps it wasn't surprising when Kilkenny pulled ahead with a sensational goal followed quickly by a point in the opening moments of the game. The Cats seemed to overwhelm Dublin in the opening quarter of the game,  forcing their attempts on goal out over the endline --but the Dubs refused to give up the chase. A point each from Meadbh Hicks (C.B.C), and Ciara Clohessy (Commericals) enabled the Dublin girls to refocus and steadily they worked their way back into a game. In the closing minutes of the first half the girls-in-blue trailed 1-1, to 0-2, but a point from Katie McDonald (BBSE) followed by three from Anna Sullivan  (St Vincent's) in as many minutes and on the half time whistle Dublin led 1-1 to 0-6.

Ciara Clohessy, Anna Sullivan and Caitlin Coffee (BSJ) helped Dublin go six points in front in the opening quarter of the second half, and it wasn't until the 42nd minute that Kilkenny scored again- A fast point followed moments later by an unstoppable goal. Having found the scent of victory,  the Cats unleashed a reign of attack against Goalkeeper Ciara Jones (Kilmacud Crokes), but having found her centre, Jones continued to block and defend everything fired at her for the remainder of the game. As the Kilkenny girls began to creep back into the game, a ball broke to half time substitute Phoebe Shannon meters from the goal mouth, and the Lucan Sarsfield player smashed it into the back of the Cat’s net, sealing their and sending the Dubs with certainty into the semi final of the All Ireland U16 Championship.
