Seniors narrow loss to Tipperary

(20 Mar 2017)

Dublin 2-10 Tipperary 2-11

This was a very competitive and enjoyable National League game played in good conditions at St. Pat's Drumcondra (original DCU venue was declared unplayable earlier in the day). Both sets of players deserve great credit for the quality of their performances at this stage of the year. Dublin, although disappointed to lose the game, will be greatly encouraged by their level of performance. This young side is full of character and determination and can look forward with confidence as the season progresses.

Tipperary started the better and had 2 points on the board before Aisling Maher sent over Dublin's first score, a pointed free. Tipperary led six points to three with 5 minutes of the half remaining. A superbly struck free on 25 minutes by goalkeeper Faye McCarthy from inside her own half slipped under the Tipp crossbar to level the scores. 2 great points from play from Siobhan Keogh and Aisling Maher gave Dublin a 2 point lead at the break. Half time score Dublin 1-5 Tipperary. 0-6

Tipperary started the second half with renewed vigour quickly adding 1-4 to their score. During this period Siobhan Keogh scorerd 2 delightful, hard won points from play. Ali Twomey after working hard on the left wing sent over a great point.to leave just 2 points between the teams 1-8 to 1-10. But a Tipperary goal on 20 minutes left Dublin with a 5 point mountain to climb. But to their credit the Dublin girls raised the intensity of their game and showed great determination and no little skill to level the game with scores from Ali Maguire 1-1 and Doireann Mullany 0-1 as the game approached full time. In time added on Tipperary edged in front with a point from a well worked free. Full time Tipperary 2-11 Dublin 2-10

No National League points for Dublin today. But players and management will be greatly encouraged with the determined, skilful and spirited performance of this young team. They will look forward with confidence to their journey to Slaneyside in two weeks time when Dublin take on Wexford in the last of the group games.
