Dublin Camogie Senior Dub Stars v Dublin Seniors  – Parnells GAA 27.12.18

Full Time Score : Senior Dub Stars 3.12 (21) v Dublin Seniors  4.16 (28)

2pm on Thursday December 27th in Parnells GAA Club in Coolock and the supporters are waiting to watch the 2nd match of the day. This time it’s the Dublin Senior Dub Stars v the Dublin Senior Team. Nobody has left the sideline, all are chatting happily, the weather has been kind to Dublin Camogie for this years Dub Stars matches.

Jo O’Reilly the Dublin Camogie Children’s Officer and James Murphy from Good Counsel are still doing the gate collecting donations for the two chosen Charities, St Michaels House and St Francis Hospice Blanchardstown. The final tally donated on the day was over €1000 which was fantastic.

Frank Browne the newly appointed Senior Camogie Manager was busy preparing the seniors for throw in and at the other end of the pitch Mick Ward was putting the Senior Dub Stars team through their paces.

With two minutes to throw in, Referee Gavin Donegan calls the Captains in for the coin toss, stands with the Girls for photos and they were off.

Like the previous match, this was going to be interesting. There were 7 girls on the Senior Dubs Stars team that had last played one another in the County Final. 5 from St Judes and 2 from Na Fianna. There were also 4 girls from last years County Champions St Vincents. Also on the Stars team were the We Are Dublin Junior and Senior Players of the year, Sinead Wylde and Aishling Carolan. Aishling also won the FODH Senior Camogie Player of the year. Dee Johnstone who won a Soaring Star this year was at no 3 so this was definitely going to be a good match.

Within the 1st minute Ali Twomey and Laura Quinn had scored a point each, one for each side. Laura went on and scored point again a minute later.

Aisling Maher an All Star who returned to Camogie after taking a year out showed great metal for the seniors in front of the goals.

Many of the young up and coming Camogie players like Kerri Finnegan, Evelyn Twomey and Niamh Hetherton showed they were well fit to play at senior level.

This game was not for the faint hearted. Nobody held back and plenty of girls hurls were broken, including the full back Eve O’Brien who was back in a Dublin jersey after being out for 18 months with an ACL.

Again like the previous game, this was a high scoring match with 19 scores in the first 30 minutes including goals from Kerri Finnegan, Aisling Maher (Penalty) and a beautiful hand pass goal from Emma Flanagan much to the delight of the crowd.

Half time score was Senior Dub Stars 1.06 v senior team 2.10
