Offaly’s wind assisted first half dominance was the platform for their 2-15 to 1-10 win over Dublin in this Irish Daily Star National Div.1 fixture at O’Toole Park, Crumlin on Sunday.

From the throw in Aoife Bugler made a terrific run and floated the sliotar to Ali Twomey who sent the sliotar over the bar for Dublin’s first point of the game. But this bright start was halted some moments later when a mix up between Dublin's full back and goalkeeper allowed Offaly’s Arlene Walker to tap the ball to the Dublin net. Offaly went on to score 2-10 by half time while Dublin managed only 2 more points - one from play from Aine Fanning and a free from Ciara Berkeley. Half time score Offaly 2-10 Dublin 0-3.

Playing with the wind Dublin started the second half with renewed determination landing 2 early points - a point from play from Louise O’Hara and a pointed free from Ciara Berkeley. Minutes later Offaly were awarded a penalty which Siobhan Flannery sent to the Dublin net to put Offaly 2-11 to 0-5 ahead. But Dublin's confidence was not dented as they fought back admirably. Mid-way through the half Aine Fanning showed huge bravery and no little skill when finishing a good Dublin move from the right wing to the net. 3 points from the imperious Louise O’Hara gave Dublin hope but they were never able to gain control of the game. Offaly, the better team on the day, were 2-15 to 1-10 ahead when referee Owen Elliott(Antrim) called a halt to proceedings.

But it was a good spirited committed performance from the Dublin girls. This Dublin team is developing well and showing incremental improvement and progress with each passing game.
