Championship runners-up Erins got a searching test from the "Regional Team" in the opening game of the championship before eventually winning by 4-12 to 0-11.
The "Regionals" have had little time to prepare for the competition and the signs showed in the first ten minutes when they were hit for 2-4 to 0-1, Clodagh McGough getting the game's first point after 20 seconds. But having weathered this storm they grew in confidence and played some fine camogie.
Isle's experience and greater understanding were difficult to counter and they managed to fire over some great scores from Dawn Barry, Julie Draper, Amy Murphy and a great goal from Louise O'Hara in the 19th minute.
At half-time Isles led by 3-7 to 0-4 with Fiona Hayes driving over a monster free from 60m to close the half. Elaine Gallery also had a super first half with two great points from well out on the wing.
Fiona Hayes came more into the game in the second half and her free-taking was superb and three minutes into the second period, she had reduced the gap to 3-7 to 0-6.
The Regional Team were dominant now and for the first 18 minutes of the second half Isles had only added one more point. Gillian McCluskey was defending superbly and Valerie Reaney despite the pressure managed to deny the visitors any real goal chance.
Grainne Free, Ellen Keatley and Claire Graham were superb in the Regional full back line as were Rachel Noctor, Grainne Quinn and Mairi Moynihan. Aisling Spillane brought off a number of great saves.
Up front Ali Twomey, Audrey Murtagh and Emma Flanagan also enjoyed fine games.
However as the game entered the final 10 minutes with the Regional team now needed goals, Isles regained control and finished strongly with Amy Murphy goaling almost on the stroke of time.
