Dublin Minor Camogie girls played Tipperary in Round 3 of the All Ireland Championship at O'Toole Park today.
Both sides needed to win as both teams had been beaten by Cork in earlier rounds.
Tipperary got off to a flying start with 1-1 on the scoreboard before Dublin had a chance to settle. The remainder of the first half was quite even and finished with Tipperary 3 points ahead but they had played with the O'Toole Park slope and the assistance of the angled breeze.
Dublin were happy enough to only be 3 down at that point but Tipperary came out of the traps at full speed and managed to have a 7 point lead around the 45 minute mark.
Dublin made a few changes and pushed Chloe Mullen from midfield to full forward. Eimear O'Leary scored some superbly stuck frees and the Chloe move paid off, taking a smart handpass from Alix Buckley, to finish to the net. Dublin were on a roll only to loose Jennifer O'Sullivan to a very harsh second yellow card.
That could have knocked any other team off their stride but not this bunch. A ball dropped into the front of the Tipperary square and somehow ended up crossing the line. Dublin up by one when the final whistle blew. Dublin 2-9 Tipperary 2-7
Tipperary were shellshocked and Dublin were elated. Sport can be so cruel and so magnificent.
Next up for Dublin are Offaly (who beat Waterford yesterday) at the start of April.
