Lucan Sarsfields won their fifth Minor A championship in a row when defeating a gallant Naomh Jude side 3-09 to 3-05 in an absorbing final at Parnells GAA club today, Sunday in cold windy but sunny conditions.

This was a final of great skill and endeavour from the players of both sides. Judes, playing with whatever wind advantage there was started the better and had early points on the board from Eimear ORiordan and a monstrous free from goalkeeper Faye McCarthy from way inside her own half. A point from Aoife Molloy sandwiched between Lucan points plus a goal from Nadia Power gave Judes a 1-03 to 0-2 lead coming up to the 20th minute. A goal from Amber O’Connor and points from Laura Morrissey and Jenny Ryan without reply gave Lucan a one point lead with 5 minutes remaining. Just before half time Nadia Power had her second goal of the half to give Judes a 2 point lead going in at half time. One felt that they should have had more on the board.

Lucan proved to be the stronger team in the second half outscoring Judes 2-05 to 1-02. Lucan started in serious fashion when Laura Morrissey had the ball in the net in the second minute of the half. Orla Beagan and Laura O’Morrissey added quick points before Aisling Molloy pointed for Judes from a free. Further points from Orla Beagan and Laura O’Mahony gave Lucan a four point lead with 5 minutes remaining. Niamh Power scored a late goal for Lucan. Judes replied immediately when substitute Hannah Begley from close range directed a high ball to the back of the net. But Judes were unable to reduce the lead and Lucan were that 4 points ahead when the final whistle sounded. Lucan deserved their victory. Congratulations.

A really good competitive game of Camogie. Well done to the players of both sides. We look forward to seeing many of today’s players representing Dublin at Minor A level in 2015.

Lucan Sarsfields: Laura Morrissey 2-02, Orla Beagan 0-04 frees, Amber O’Connor 1-00, Samantha Fitzgerald, Ciara Casey and Lorna O’Mahony 0-01 each

Naomh Jude: Nadia Power 2-00, Hannah Begley 1-00, Aoife Molloy 0-03, Eimear ORiordan and Faye McCarthy 0-01 each.

Player of the Final: Orla Beagan (Lucan Sarsfields).
