Despite the ever threatening rain, 10 teams served up superb camogie at the excellent Lucan Sarsfields venue with 5 points being the largest winning margin in any game. The home club claimed the blue riband events when doing the U14A and U16A double.
In the U14A game, Plunketts were 2-6 to nil down at the interval but were a revelation in the second half rattling in 5 cracking goals and had Lucan biting their fingernails at the finish. In the U14B game Erins Isle had the goal scoring knack to overcome an early deficit against a fine Naomh Jude side for whom Nadia Power caught the eye. The all Southside meeting of Ballyboden St Endas and Ballinteer St Johns was a cracker with a free near the finish clinching victory for the Marlay Park outfit. Boden's Anna Bruce pushed eventual winner Aoife Kelly of Ballinteer for the Player of the Match award.
In the U16A grade, Lucan and St Vincents have been the keenest of rivals throughout their juvenile years and this was no exception. The heavy rain and wind didn't deter either side from serving up a cracking game. Lucan's excellent start was decisive with 2-2 on the scoreboard in the first 17 minutes thanks to Kate Whyte (free), goals from Orla Moloney and Ciara Sheehan and an excellent Orla Beagan point. But the final 12 minutes belonged to Vincents. Two points by Ciara Berkeley settled the team and Louise Walsh grabbed another in the 26th minute. A Ciara Berkeley effort seemed destined for a point until it hit the upright and Aisling Maher gathered the rebound to hammer to the net. Two more Ciara Berkeley specials left Vincents trailing by a point at the break.
However in the second half the Lucan rearguard was superb and the brilliance of Kate Whyte from frees finally broke the Vincents challenge.
In the U16B clash between Naomh Jude, a good start was also half the battle with Laura Kilcoyne outstanding at full back in front of a very composed goalkeeper Lisa Callan. Niamh McCarthy was one of the most stylish players on view for Naomh Bríd but despite a rousing second half they could not cut down the Judes lead.
Many thanks to Lucan Sarsfields and to all the referees. Five more finals on Sunday from U13 to U15.
