The Executive of the County Board thanks Naomh Brid, Trinity Gaels, Naomh Peregrine, Crumlin and the Dublin GAA County Board for the use of their facilities and for hosting this year's juvenile championship finals. We are eagerly looking forward to tomorrow's games - good weather and competitive games. Couldn't get much better!
Faughs withstand Ballinteer’s second half fight back to capture under 16A title. This was a very competitive and enjoyable final. Faughs started the better and were 2 points ahead after 8 minutes thanks to points from and Rachel Seery and Becca Lewis. Ballinteer managed 2 points in the first half whereas Faughs took their chances and slotted home three goals courtesy of Chloe Mullen, Holly Finnegan and Rachel Seery to give them a solid 3-2 to 0-2 lead at half time.
An invigorated Ballinteer side upped their performance in the second half and we witnessed a terrific contest. Ballinteer slotted over 2 early points thanks to Amy Keegan and Sarah Meagher who put in a super second half performance. Ballinteer put huge pressure on the Faughs defence and under normal circumstances would have had the sliotar in the net but Faughs backs and keeper defended heroically. Each side scored 3 points in this absorbing second half. But as the old adage says goals win games and so it proved today. Final score Faughs Celtic 3-5 Ballinteer St. Johns 0-5
Despite the low scoring this was an absorbing competitive game much appreciated by the supporters of both sides. Both sets of players gave everything to the cause. The Carmel Hanley Cup was presented for the first time to winning captain, Becca Lewis, by Mick Hanley and a smaller replica cup was presented to Player of the final Ballinteer’s Sarah Meagher by Colette.
Scorers:
Faughs Celtic: Rachel Seery 1-1, Holly Finnegan and Chloe Mullen a goal each, Emma Ryan and Becca Lewis 2 points each.
Ballinteer St. John’s: Sarah Meagher 0-3, Grace Dent and Amy Keegan 0-1 each.
