Kevins have brilliant day despite rain

(13 Jun 2011)

Bit of an update on the success of our camogie "Try It Out" Day. Big thank you to Eve and Dan who made the day possible!

Unfortunately the weather was less than perfect yesterday, hearts sunk everywhere when we woke up to what looked like a day of rain. Our venue had to be moved indoors to Loreto School in Crumlin a few hundred yards up the road. We set up areas for - food and beverages, run by Geraldine O'Leary and Marie Cullen, two mammys of players from the adult team, (a huge amount brought by parents, players, coaches, friends, and so many wonderful donations from various shops and restaurants), Mr. Podzo (a fabulous entertainer who played games, face painted, played music, allowed the children to hammer away at a pinata with their hurls, and lots more!), and of course a space for camogie skills and games (including shots at the Dublin camogie goalkeeper, Helen Cosgrave, who arrived with two team mates Tara Corrigan and Mairi Moynihan and were fantastic with the children, presented medals and signed autographs).

We played matches both inside and outside, as the rain eased, with all age groups, from three years old to our very own adult camogie team. Our raffle was a great success due to the generous gifts from Gaynors Off Licence on Cork Street, Rosies O'Gradys in Harolds Cross, Tesco, and of course parents and friends. Dublin City Hurls in Harolds cross were there to provide the opportunity for parents to buy equipment; hurls, helmets, sliothars, grips, etc.

The children had a great day, went home exhausted and happy, and can safely say the same for the adults. There was a great sense of community spirit with so many parents, players, coaches and club members all giving a dig out. A huge success for the camogie section of the club, we are extremely proud of everyone, and hope there are many more days like this to come.
Check out www.kevins.ie for training times and a list of age groups and coaches for anyone who missed yesterday and would like to get involved. Everyone is welcome!

Thank you for taking an interest in our club.
Yours in Sport,
Glenda O'Leary
