Féile Titles for Lucan and Naomh Bríd

(26 Oct 2009)

Erins Isle superbly hosted the finals of Dublin Féile na nGael Division 2 and 3 on Bank Holiday Monday.  The large attendance was treated to two terrific games.  Many thanks also to Thomas Davis who hosted Division 3 on Sunday.

Division 2  Naomh Bríd 2 - 6  Na Fianna 0 - 2

An outstanding performance by Naomh Bríd captain and player of the match Sarah Hawkshaw caught the eye in this encounter.

Na Fianna created most of the chances in the first half but failed to capitalise.  Had they done so there might have been a different result.  Points from frees by Sarah Hawkshaw for Naomh Bríd to a pointed free Cliona McCullagh left the scores 0-2 to 0-1 in favour of the Blanchardstown girls.

After the break, the game swung decisively in Naomh Brid's favour with goals by Sarah Hawkshaw and Aisling Byrne and although Na Fianna fought to the finish, they could not break down a solid Naomh Bríd defence.

Division 3  Lucan Sarsfields 3 - 0  Thomas Davis 1 - 2

This was a cracker from start to finish with goals being crucial to Lucan's victory.  They opened an early 2-0 to 0-0 lead thanks to green flags from Elaine McClelland and Orla Whelan.  But a brilliant goal by Ciara McGuigan had Davis' right back in the game by half-time.

Two superb frees by Samantha Malcolmson (Player of the Match) of Thomas Davis reduced the gap to just one point but with 8 minutes to go Elaine McClelland's second goal proved a match winner.  Ten year old Nicole Malcolmson was outstanding for Thomas Davis.  Jennifer Foy excelled for Lucan and gave a great captain's speech.
