(29 Apr 2018)

A great weekend for Dublin Camogie with the 2018 Dublin Féile na nGael taking place in 6 locations across the city. Just over 975 girls  went to battle to claim the title for their club. With heart stopping matches and fantastic skill on display in every division, there is no doubt this year will an unforgettable one for all. Congratulations to all the teams that took part, and a big thank you to all the clubs that hosted, the mentors that coached and the parents and supporters who cheered.

Division 1, 2 & 7 Finals were held in St Anne’s, Bohernabreena on Sunday. All winning teams and the runner’s up of Division 1 will now progress to national and regional Féile in the coming months.

Division 1 Champions: Naomh Bríd

The Blanchardstown & Castleknock girls captured the Feile camogie title with a 2-01 win over St Oliver Plunkett Eoghan Ruadh in a nail biting final on Sunday morning. Both teams gave an inspirational performance with some heart stopping moments from both teams.

Final score Naomh Bríd 2.03 v SOPER 0.02.

Naomh Bríd’s Ella Curtain’s powerful performance earned her player of the match.

Naomh Bríd will now go on to represent Dublin in the John West National Feile na nGael in Galway in June. Go n-éirí and t-ádh libh!

Division 2 Champions: St Vincents

Reigning Div 2. Champions St Vincent’s defended their title against local rivals Whitehall Colmcille in the second of the three finals at Bohernabreena. Strong balls in from the midfield saw an early first goal for St Vincent’s and the Marino girls headed into the second half with a 4 point lead. With the wind behind them Whitehall broke through the St Vincent’s defence to make some stunning shots on goal,  but despite some powerful attempts they couldn’t find the net. Outstanding performance from both sides.

Final Score St Vincent’s 2-02 v Whitehall CC 0-0

The dynamic Ava Lambe of St Vincent’s was awarded player of the match

Division 7 Champions: Crumlin

The reigning Div. 7 Champions Crumlin comfortably beat the young Barrógs side in the opening round of the feile on Saturday morning 4-0, 0-1, but girls in green and red battled through and held their own in a stunning performance at St Annes on Sunday. Level going into the second half, both sidelines held their breath for the duration as both teams hurled fast ball towards one another’s goal. After countless wides, and sliotars bouncing off crossbars and goalposts, it was player of the match Crumlin’s Abbie Ryan who finally secured the victory for the girls in navy with a stunning point from the 45.

Player of the match, Abbie Ryan, Crumlin

Final Score: Crumlin 1-01, Naomh Barróg 1-0

Division 3, 4, 5 & 6 Finals were held in Naomh Peregrine, Blanchardstown on Sunday afternoon.

Division 3 Champions: Ballinteer St John

The spirit of Feile Na Gael was on show in an epic encounter between Clontarf and Ballinteer which many onlookers declared as the highlight of the division 3 group fixtures over the weekend. An evenly fought contest, with both sides taking the game to their opponents; the game was finally decided in the frantic final minutes when Ballinteer St. John scored a goal directly from a 45 to snatch victory from a devastated Clontarf team whose Alison Garvey took the player of the match award for an incredible all-round performance including an sensational goal from the 40 yard line.

Player of the match: Alsion Garvey, Clontarf.

Final Score: BSJ 2-3, Clontarf 2-2

Division 4 Champions: Skerries Harps

Jude may be the patron saint of desperate situations, but that was far from the case for Tymon Park’s finest and they battled hard against an in-form Skerries Harps outfit. The large crowd present were treated to an excellent display of skillful attacking and dogged defending from both sides throughout the encounter. But it was the second goal from Skerries, that eventually separated the teams at the final whistle.

Player of the match: Leah Beggs, Skerries Harps

Final Score: Skerries Harps 2-01, Naomh Jude 1-02

DIvision 5 Champions: Cuala

A single score was the difference between the teams in this tense encounter as Cuala ran out eventual winners in a hard fought victory. Exceptional defending from both sides especially around the ruck kept the score low, but Ballyboden/St. Endas could not whether the storm as Cuala laid siege to their opponents with a positive style of play which produced the goal that would finally separate the sides. Sarah O’Hagan took home the player of the match award for a performance which proved instrumental in delivering a well earned victory for Cuala.

Player of the match: Sarah O Hagan, Cuala

Final Score Cuala 1-0, BBSE 0-1

Division 6 Champions: Ballyboden St Enda

Ballyboden St. Endas and Castleknock treated their supporters to a vintage display of camogie in the tallaght sun. A player of the match display from Abbie Fitzgerald and a resilient Ballyboden St. Endas defence  was enough to see off an inspired Castleknock side who were looking to register a victory against their Division 6 rivals. Attacking flair was on display from both sides; but as the clock wore down, Ballyboden held onto their lead to claim the shield.

Player of the match: Abbie Fitzgerald, BBSE

Final Score: BBSE 1-03, Castleknock 1-01

The County Board would like to thank the Féile committee led by Barbara Grenell & Pat Martin for their Trojan work in organising this fantastic celebration of Dublin Camogie.
