Liberty Insurance All Ireland Senior Camogie Championship, Dublin v Meath at Parnells GAA

Meath 0-12

The Pitch was damp,  it had been cut the night before, Brendan Cooper from the Dublin County Board had gone up to check on it and ended up raking it the morning of. The board had gone to endless trouble to get it as a double header with the Dublin hurlers but after talks with Dublin GAA and Croke Park it simply was not feasible.

Captain Roisin Baker went in for the toss, Dublin would start playing towards the housing end.

Ava Reilly from Erin Go Bragh had written a lovely letter to the Dubs, She want's to be a Senior Camogie player.... the girls welcomed her with open arm's , called to her school and said, keep on playing. She was the mascot for the day. Ava was introduced to Dublin Chairperson jenny Byrne and Senior Manager Frank Browne.

A few minutes before throw in, a hard working Parnells Lad was lining the pitch, and the atmosphere was electric. Mini Games brought many supporters to the game.

This was a huge game for the Dubs. 3 points for the taking in a Championship match.

It was a really physical match; the Mini Game kids on the sideline were in awe of the physicality of their heroes.

Dublin Camogie Chair and Vice Chair Jenny Wyldes and Rachel Rogers were bringing on the water, a lovely sight to see, the board on the ground doing the basics.

Dublin had 5 Championship debutants, Goalkeeper Ciara Tierney, Corner backs Dee Johnstone and Orla gray, and forwards Sinead Wylde and Kerri Finnegan. 

 

Meath’s Aoife Mc Nearney got the first score of the match with a point from play. Dublin’s response was a goal from the fearless Kerri Finnegan after a fumble by Meath Goalie Maggie Randle.

 

Meath went on to score points from the talented Jane Dolan and Aoife Minogue who has come back to the Meath squad after travelling. They could have scored a lot more but for backs Dee Johnstone, Emma O'Byrne and Eve O'Brien who worked in tangent with Grainne Quinn, Orla Gray and Captain Roisin Baker.

Dublin’s Sinead Wylde and Orla Beagan went on to score a free and a 45 before Meath’s Jane Dolan scored another free and Aine Mc Nearney scored from play.

The score was now level. Dublin 1.02 to Meath’s 0.05

The skillful and hard working Ali Twomey put Dublin ahead with a beautiful point from play just before Meath’s No 14 Jane Dolan leveled it again with a point from play.

At 21 Minutes, the game was level again: Dublin 1.03(6) v Meath 0.06 (6) Laura Twomey was working tirelessly in Midfield.

In the last 10 minutes of the game, Jane Dolan and Sinead Wylde exchanged frees but Dublin came out on top at half time. The score was Dublin 1.05 v Meath 0.07

The seniors went to their dressing rooms for the half time talk while the youngsters of Dublin Camogie shone their light, much to the delight of the supporters. There were 3 games going on across the pitch at Parnells, teams from Lucan Sarsfields, Noamh Mearnogs, O’Dwyers, Naomh Olaf, and Good Counsel. Many of these girls will play for Dublin in the future.

SECOND HALF

In the second half Dublin’s hard working ladies went on to win 3 frees for Sinead Wylde who was on form with the frees, to pop over the bar.

12 minutes into the second half Dublin introduced the gifted Siobhan Kehoe to replace Ellen Mc Govern who had given it her all, Siobhan scored a point immediately just before wing back Emma O’Byrne drove through and popped one over the bar.

14 Minutes into the second half the Score was now Dublin 1.11 v Meath 0.08

Jane Dolan was causing problems for Dublin, she was popping over points frees and play.

17 minutes into the second half,  Aishling Maher came on for the hard working Alex Griffin.

Dublin had a blue spell when Jane Dolan and Kristina Troy slotted over points from frees and play. The score was now 1.12 (15) to 0.12 (12) 

Dublin's No 9 Midfielder, amazingly hardworking Aisling Carolan the Dublin Senior Camogie Vice Captain came up and scored a point from play leaving the score Dublin 1.14(17) v Meath 0.12 (12)

Substitute Aishling Maher scored a great point just ahead of another free won by Dublin’s hard working forwards, which Sinead Wylde slotted over the bar. The score was now 1.15 (18) v Meath 0.12 (12).

31 Minutes, and Dublin were pulling ahead, Substitute Siobhan Kehoe who received a yellow card in the previous seconds, put a beautiful point over her shoulder and straight over the black spot. This was to be the last score of the game.

Full Time Score : Dublin 1.16 (19) v Meath 0.12(12)

Well done to  Manager Frank Browne, gifted trainer Mark Cooney and all the Dublin Senior Camogie Team and backroom team of Sandra Tarr, John O’Connell, Ryan McDermott, Eleanor Buggy, Philly Mc Mahon and James Murphy.
