Dublin lost to Kilkenny in this delayed (2010) Leinster final played at Pairc de Burca, Kilmacud, on a scoreline 2-7 to 3-10. This was a terrific game of high quality skilful Camogie. Congratulations to both sides on such great performances so early in the year.
Dublin had much the better of the opening 10 minutes and put huge pressure on the Kilkenny backs. Unfortunately for the girls in blue they failed to register scores from the many chances they created sending over some 6 wides during this early period. Gradually Kilkenny got more into the game and by half time were ahead 0-5 to 0-3. The scoring did not reflect the great display served up by both teams.
Immediately after half time Kilkenny raised their game. Their forwards began to run more at the Dublin defence scoring 3 goals. Dublin never gave up but harried and hassled throughout the field creating many scoring chances. They scored 2-4 goals to bring them within striking distance. Dublin’s forwards continued to press for the winning goals. They were awarded 2 penalties late in the game. Unfortunately only 1 point accrued from these opportunities. Kilkenny were 3-10 to 2-7 ahead when the final whistle sounded. Kilkenny recaptured the Leinster Minor title which Dublin had won in 2009.
Scorers: Ciara Berkeley 0-5, Emer McCarthy 0-2, Kate McCarry and Marie Moynihan 1-0 each.
Well done to the players of both teams for an exciting, sporting and skilful game of camogie. Well done to our Dublin players and their mentors – Manager Frank Drohan and Selectors Sandra Tarr and Gerry McGough.
