Dublin GAA Strategy Review: Survey

(23 Oct 2010)

The Dublin GAA Board has commenced a Strategic Review of its operation.  The process embraces Camogie and Ladies Football and the Review Group will hold discussions with the Camogie Board in this regard.  Part of the process of consultation involves an online survey of clubs, members, players and supporters.  The multi-lingual questionnaire is available in English, Irish, French, Spanish, Ibo and Polish and can be completed at the following link -

The Dublin Camogie Board urges all those involved in Camogie to complete the survey by the closing date of Monday 8 November 2010.

“The key elements of Dublin’s strategy for the future will be excellence, volunteerism, inclusion and participation” said Gerry Harrington, Dublin County Board Chairman at the launch of a major review of the challenges and opportunities facing the GAA in the capital.

The Strategic Review Steering Committee is being headed by Brendan Waters who has led similar exercises at national and provincial levels of the GAA. The work of the Committee will be supported by a range of individuals with a wealth of expertise in games promotion, business, infrastructure development, planning, strategic management, information technology and communications. The Chairman Gerry Harrington; Vice-Chairman Andy Kettle, Board Chief Executive John Costello and Strategic Programme Manager, Kevin O’Shaughnessy are also members of the Steering Committee. Ard Stiúrthóir, Paraic Duffy is also a contributor to the work of the Committee.

Brendan Waters adds “the GAA is a huge part of ‘Brand Dublin’. Thanks to the voluntary efforts of countless people, a substantial part of the sporting infrastructure of the county has been built by the Association. The sporting, social, cultural, economic and community impact of its members on the ground is immeasurable. It is vital that we continue to build on this great tradition by identifying where we should be going in the next decade or so.”

The strategic review is part of a process initiated under the GAA’s own Strategic Vision and Action Plan 2009-2015 which requires all county boards to have their own plan for the future.

The Steering Committee plans to engage in a very comprehensive examination of the strengths and weaknesses of the organisation in the county and as part of that exercise a wide consultation process is envisaged.

Complementing the survey will be a number of Focus Group discussions with inter alia players, coaches, referees, local authorities, business interests, all levels of education, camogie, ladies football and relevant sports agencies.

The Strategic Review Steering Committee hopes to present its report to the Dublin County Board in early 2011.
