Dub U14s do well in Tipp

(05 Apr 2010)

Dublin took 2 Under 14 teams to Tipperary on Saturday. It was a very early
morning start for the Dublin girls and as the bus headed south the fog
seemed to get thicker but the clouds lifted after Cashel.

The Dublin 2nd team played superbly and ran out convincing winners against
their Tipp opponents on a scoreline of 7 - 8 to 3 - 4. Ailish O'Neill and
Martha O'Donoghue and Niamh McKenna were outstanding on the day.

The main A game of the day ended in a draw. Danielle Aylmer had her normal
assured game in goal, however short puckouts may not be the best option in
upcoming games against Kilkenny.

Chloe, Niamh and Blaithin made up a very solid full back line all through
and Mary Cronin and Aisling O'Leary controlled the halfback line. Sarah
Nagle was superb for the 3rd game in a row.

Doireann Mullany and Leah Mullins are a formidable midfield partnership
while the half forward line of Eve Kehoe, Orla Beagan and player of the
match Tess Coyne from the St Vincent's Club were a constant threat up front
giving the Tipperary half back line a lot to work on.

The two Lauras and Annemarie were were working together and combined for a
number of scoring opportunities but only when Annemarie switched with Eve,
the play opened up and Dublin thrived in the open spaces. Tess Coyne drove
Dublin forward in the 2nd half with 3 superb points from play.

Eilise and Tara did superb work when introduced, while Aoife McKenna and the
flying Anna Walsh were probing the Tipperary defence constantly.

After 60 minutes of a tough physical battle the sides ended level at 2-4 for
Tipp and 1-7 for DUBLIN.

A big thank you to Eimear Butler and Joan Twomey for looking after the girls
on the day.
