Camogie Legends Tournament 2011

(06 Mar 2011)

The Inaugural Camogie Legends Tournament took place in St. Judes Club in South Dublin an Saturday 5 March, the eve of the All Ireland Club finals in Croke Park. This tournament is open to players who have competed at the highest level, are over 35 and have not played Intercounty camogie for the past 5 years. This tournament proved to be a great success. It was inspiring to see so many legends of the game back in competitive action displaying their skills and talents. Joan Flynn, Uachtaran, and Sinead O'Connor, Ard Stiúrthóir, were among the appreciative supporters.

Teams from Cork, Galway, Kilkenny and Wexford took part in  this inaugural tournament. After the round robin phase where all the teams played each other Kilkenny and Galway made it to the final. Galway may have entered the final as slight favourites based on earlier results but at the end of a terrific final it was Kilkenny who went on to claim The Camogie Legends Cup (named in honour of the late Biddy Phillips)

Congratulations to all who made this inaugural tournament such a grat success - The Camogie Association, their full time team, and St. Judes who hosted this event so well. There's no doubt but that this tournament will go from strength to strength.
