Many camogie followers will be saddened to hear of the death of Rose Ryan. Rose passed away on Saturday last (7th Jan 2012) in the care of nursing staff of St.Vincent's hospital together with family.
The former Muiris O'Neill and Eoghan Ruadh player she gave many years as a selector to Áth Cliath during the 70's and 80's when the Capital won National League and did well at championship level as well. Described by many players over the last day or two as somebody who "always encouraged young players, and was always trying to boost the player's confidence", she was also a senior intercounty referee and had the honour in 1986 of refereeing the Junior All-Ireland Championship Final beween Kildare and Clare in Croke Park.
After Eoghan Ruadh, Rose joined Cuala in Dalkey where she spent many more years encouraging and coaching players and did well with Cuala who were Intermediate and Senior at the time.
Rose always loved music and many a good night was had in her house with Rose at the piano. Rose also loved other sports and was among the large crowd when John Treacy won his World Cross Country medal in Limerick back in 1979. She was always up for a laugh and also loved travel. She also had two lovely small dogs Fionn and Mac who enjoyed a great lifestyle, running around the Phoenix Park Sunday after Sunday. Rose is now in her camogie heaven.
The Dublin County Board extends its deepest sympathy to Rose's family.
